CREATIVE Writing, Walking and Meditation retreats

28 April - 2 May 2017; 22 - 26 September 2017

Wild places and walking have long been connected with increasing wellbeing and creativity. Long before studies started being conducted to prove it, many renowned writers wrote about their own experiences of the deep connection between walking, nature and the positive impact on their lives and work.

We are very excited to be hosting two Writing, Walking and Meditation retreats in 2017 with Elaine Kingett.

In 2012, inspired by her parents’ war diaries and the therapeutic benefits of her own life writing, Elaine established Write it Down! a series of creative and therapeutic journal writing workshops and retreats that encourage everyone, irrespective of their conventional writing skills or academic achievement, to take up a notebook and pen and record their lives for recognised mental and physical health benefits and to rediscover their creative imagination.

Her retreats are unpretentious, energising and inclusive, organised into small groups and set in unique and beautiful locations. In a non-critical and relaxed environment, individual creativity blossoms. Her retreats provide a lasting boost in self-esteem and self-confidence, a notebook full of ideas for poems, stories and memoirs and demonstrate the power of pen on paper to enrich our lives.

Elaine is a freelance writer and journalist, with clients including the Guardian, Archivist and Ally Capellino. She has been a regular feature writer for Woman and Home magazine for 14 years. She has a BA [Hons] Fashion, MA Professional Writing and a PPA Highly Commended Writer of The Year award, has studied autobiographic creative writing at the University of Sussex, Therapeutic, Reflective Writing and Poetry Therapy with The Professional Writing Academy and is a creative writing mentor for the Ministry of Stories. She is a member of Lapidus, an affiliate of Write As Rain and a Hoffman graduate. She volunteers for Mind mental health charity and has studied mindfulness meditation in Nepal and London. Before launching Write It Down! holidays she led retreats for Lynne Franks Bloom Retreats in Mallorca. In London she runs weekly Mums & Babies Creative Writing Workshops and evening Writing Salons.

“Elaine’s writing retreats are fun, challenging and supportive. The exercises she sets are thought provoking and interesting, and she really knows how to bring out the best in people’s writing.” Sarah

“Elaine’s non-judgemental, relaxed approach meant our writing retreat  felt like a safe haven for shared stories, ideas and memories. My confidence in my ability to write grew under Elaine’s expert guidance, and the morning meditations which began each session seemed to spark a relaxed creativity and closeness in our group. Elaine’s enthusiasm for the written word is infectious and I left feeling newly inspired to pick up my pen.”  Catherine
